Being creative with the use of community space can increase opportunities for residents to engage in safe, moderate-to-vigorous physical activity. The Instant Fitness program encourages people of all ages to engage in quick and easy physical activity breaks. Instant Fitness incorporates activities from Instant Recess and SPARK, both of which provide evidence-based physical activity materials and resources for people of all ages and abilities. Instant Fitness is a fun and interactive series that challenges everyone to take 10 to15 minutes for a physical activity break during the day.
Instant Fitness is designed so that the program can be offered anywhere. It was piloted as "Rockin' Recess" in summer 2014 at the six San Diego County Library locations that were SNAP eligible sites serving summer meals. The Rockiní Recess pilot represented a new opportunity for kids and families to exercise together and build healthy futures in a space already devoted to community building and healthy living.
